Managing Principal | National multi-disciplinary design firm

A leading national architecture and design firm is seeking a Managing Principal to lead its Los Angeles studio — a flagship office and key driver of regional growth. This is a senior leadership role for a commercially minded, people-first leader ready to serve as the face of the firm in one of the most dynamic architecture and design markets in the country. The Los Angeles office operates with approximately 50 - 60 professionals. The incoming OPL will reset office culture, accelerate business development, and scale the office to roughly double its current size. The role sits within a collaborative regional leadership team and reports to the Regional Practice Director. The Role The OPL leads the base design business of the Los Angeles office, overseeing operations and serving as its primary client-facing executive. The role spans multiple market sectors including healthcare, education, community and civic, and commercial. As Irvine operations are brought under the LA umbrella, the OPL may also support broader regional coordination, with other leaders already embedded on the ground there. Key Responsibilities • Drive new business development and own top-line revenue growth for the office • Build and sustain strong client relationships across multiple market sectors • Reset and strengthen office culture — a key immediate priority • Provide visible, present leadership (minimum 3 days per week in-office) • Attract, recruit, and retain top design talent to scale the team • Collaborate with market sector leaders, client leaders, and regional leadership • Support growth of engineering presence in the West region What We're Looking For • Market-agnostic, comfortable leading across multiple sectors • Proven track record of winning new business and driving top-line growth • Demonstrated ability to build strong, lasting office culture • Experience attracting and scaling teams in a competitive talent market • Confident, visible leadership presence — able to be the face of an office and a market • Collaborative operating style suited to complex, multi-stakeholder environments • Based in or willing to relocate to the Los Angeles area
