Building Regulations Principal Designer - PD Qualification not essential!

Are you an experienced Architect, Architectural Technologist, Building Surveyor, Engineer or Design Manager with a strong understanding of Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act? We are seeking a Principal Designer (Building Regulations) Lead to take ownership of our practice-wide Building Regulations and Building Safety compliance responsibilities and play a key role in shaping our technical and regulatory excellence. This is an exciting opportunity to influence high-profile projects, support multidisciplinary teams, and lead the practice's response to the evolving regulatory landscape. Key Responsibilities • Act as the practice lead for the Principal Designer (Building Regulations) role across projects requiring Building Control approval • Plan, manage and coordinate design work to ensure compliance with Building Regulations throughout the design phase • Provide expert advice on Building Regulations, compliance strategies and regulatory risk • Coordinate design teams and review project information to ensure compliant outcomes • Support Higher-Risk Building projects and Building Safety Gateway submissions where required • Lead compliance with Principal Designer duties under the Building Safety Act and maintain appropriate evidence and audit trails • Develop internal guidance, procedures and training to strengthen compliance across the practice Skills and Expertise • Strong experience applying UK Building Regulations across a range of building types • In-depth understanding of the Principal Designer (Building Regulations) role and Building Safety Act requirements • Experience acting as a BR Principal Designer on both Higher-Risk and non-Higher-Risk Buildings • Excellent technical, communication and stakeholder management skills • Ability to interpret Approved Documents and provide practical compliance advice Qualifications • Degree qualified in Architecture, Engineering, Building Surveying, Architectural Technology or a related discipline • Professional registration with ARB, RIBA, CIAT, RICS or a similar recognised body • Ongoing CPD relating to Building Regulations, fire safety and regulatory compliance Benefits and Culture We offer a senior, practice-wide role with genuine influence over technical quality and compliance, a supportive and collaborative working environment, opportunities for professional development, competitive salary and hybrid working arrangements If you're passionate about Building Safety, technical excellence and helping deliver compliant, high-quality projects, we'd love to hear from you.
